Won a gold in the 100m fly, setting a new championships record in the semis at Pan Pacific Championships … was second in the 100m fly at the P66 Summer Nationals … won his second-straight 100y fly title at the NCAA Championships, breaking the American record at the event; placed fifth in the 50y free.
In 2001:
Tied American record in the 50m fly at World Championships, placing fourth in the event; won a silver in the 100m fly, bettering his American record by two-tenths … won 100m fly at P66 Spring Nationals … won 100y fly at NCAAs and was fifth in 100y free; also swam on American record-breaking 400y medley relay.
